Amber Berkins

Middle School Counselor

Amber has worked in education for 8 years as a School Counselor. Her main goal has always been to connect first generation black and brown students with educational opportunities that help change their lives and shift their perspectives on ways of being. She is trained in Hatha Yoga, practices meditation, and creates beautifully scented candles, all skills she likes to introduce to her students and others!

Amber graduated from Ursinus College with a Bachelor's of Arts in Spanish Language Arts, This degree led Amber to study and live in various countries across the world: Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, Cusco, Peru and Havana, Cuba. While in Cuba she obtained a certificate in the Development of Social-Emotional Health for Children and Adolescents from the Instituto Nacional De Higiene, Epidemiologia Y Microbiologia (INHEM).

Amber received her M.A. in Bilingual School Counseling from NYU Steinhardt in 2014. Then she completed her Advanced Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Counseling with the University of Buffalo in December of 2019.

Amber has recently joined the Lyons Community School as the Middle School Counselor. Amber would like to bring mental health counseling, restorative practice, and social-emotional teaching practices to the classrooms at Lyons while continuing the work to dismantle the school to prison pipeline.
