7th Graders visit public parks in preparation for art project

Last week 7th grade students were visiting the Highline and Brooklyn Bridge Parks, and were taking pictures with their phones for the brochures they will be designing in art class. And they made new friends too!

Alumni Make Their Mark and Stop By to Visit Lyons

Reynaldo came to visit and share news of his new job at Con Edison (it really pays to be bilingual), Andwele finished his first year at Louisiana State University, studying to be an engineer, and Yaritma came by to let us know she completed her first year studying criminology at John Jay. Where will you be the year after you graduate from Lyons?

The 8th grade trip to the staten Island Green Belt was so beautiful that the pictures just kept coming in.  Here are a few more shots taken on that lovely day.

9th graders get taped up for their Public Works Field Studies unit, they are creating sculptures that they will install in public as they try to change stereotypes about teens.

MAP and Field Studies classes that have been going steady for several years are finding new places to go and new experiences to enrich their learning.

The Theatre Production MAP class toured Lincoln Center in Manhattan,

 which includes a dozen of the most important stages in New York City. 

After exploring this $185-million hub for dance, theatre, opera, and live music, 

the class addressed two essential questions: is theatre for everyone? and should the theatre be free?
