June 24, 2008 – PTA elections are held. Congratulations to Erik Parker who continues to be our president, Natalie Sherwood our new vice president, Tanja Waters our new treasurer and Glennis Farrell our secretary. PTA meetings are held monthly from September to June at 6:30 on the last Tuesday of each month.
June 16, 2008 – Lyons is awarded a planning grant from New Visions. The initiative is the New Day College and Career Ready Pilot Campaign, designed to help school think about and implement strategies to help students not only get into college, but be prepared for college.
June 16, 2008 – New family evening was held at Lyons. Students joining Lyons in September came to meet staff members, tour the school and do an object observation (a staple of the Lyons way of learning).
June 13, 2008 – Our first Field Day was celebrated. All staff and students spent the day at nearby Lindsay Park.
June 11, 2008 – Lyons held its first Talent Sharing in our auditorium. Students and staff danced, sang, performed skits and Capoira, recited poetry, and double dutched to an enthusiastic audience.
June 6, 2008 – Lyons is given the highest possible rating for a first year school during our School Quality Review. Our school was judged by an outside evaluator to be a school that “exceeded expectations” for a first year school.
June 4 and 7, 2008 – Gallery Openings at Rush Chelsea and Corridor. Work from all Lyons students is displayed at Rush’s galleries. Students attend openings, celebrate their hard work and receive certificates of participation in Rush.
